SPACE WOLF ARMY

NOVEMBER 11TH

Sorry for the poor picture quality on this shot.  This is what 2000pts looks like prior to assembly.  It really is a lot of boxes and a lot of work to cut all the pieces from the sprues and assemble them.  Patience at this point is well worth it since everything you do now influences the painting process.  Each point of attachment to the sprue is cut with a sprue cutter or exacto knife to ensure that the plastic is not damaged.  When you twist the pieces off it has a tendency to 'crater' the area that was attached to the sprue and this should be avoided at all costs.

These shots show the progression of the application of the extra armour for a rhino.  As you can see from the first picture each piece has some pretty serious flash tags.  These must be cut or ground off.  The resin is pretty hard and tough but care should still be taken so you don't accidentally break a piece.  Once the pieces are cleaned of tags and flash you just glue them to the rhino.  The fit was surprisingly good to the body of the rhino.  Oddly the worst area of fit was the door section of the armour and the Space Wolf doors.  I'd have thought that since both were Forgeworld the fit would have been better.  Lastly, each vehicle is washed with hot soapy water to remove the resin extrusion oils and any oils from my hands while building.  This is not an optional step.  If you use Forgeworld parts you must wash it prior to painting or else the extrusion oils will not allow paint to hold.

I mentioned that the tags on the tops of the reinforced armour doors shattered, causing resin damage.  It is pretty ugly and I fixed it by laying a piece of plastic card over each section that was damaged.

These pics show a predator that is assembled prior to detailing with the Icons from Forgeworld and then after.  You can see that I do not fully assemble the sponsons since it is very hard to paint the inside plate if they are glued in place.  I store the extra pieces on the correct vehicle with blue tac.

From this picture you can see the expolsion of sprues and models on one of my tables.  It might seem disordered [and ahem...it is a bit] but it is just the way I build up the units.

This shot shows the 6 scouts after combining the space marine torso and Catachan parts.  I cut off the raised back of the torso, seriously trimmed down a space marine pack and added it for their combat pack.  I will be adding shoulder plates, furs and hair to the models to make them look more like veteran space wolves.
