Painted Grey Knight Terminator for Inquisitor:

High Lord Octavius of the 1st Co. of the Grey Knights

With the codex colours of black, silver and gold I wondered if I was going to be too constrained.  It turned out that while the colours are simple they work damn well together.  The purple of the loin cloth aids in breaking up the black and imparts the regal feel I was after.  The finish of the model is a Dulcote with GW Matte varnish lightly applied with a blow dryer to make for even spray.  This protects the model and still maintains the 'pure' paint look.  The silver areas and the halberd blade were all brushed with 2 layers of gloss varnish for a shiny look.

Grey Knight Left Side 1.JPG (80675 bytes)This side shot shows up the detail of the NMM gold scroll work.  I based the scroll in a darkened Bronzed Flesh and then did six highlights up to a very white Bronzed Flesh.  While the gold scroll work is a different method than the shield and shoulder icon it has a very similar appearance.

Grey Knight Top.JPG (38720 bytes)This picture shows the balance I was able to maintain in the shoulders.  My decision to add a more geometric scroll to the top was a desire to enhance the regal look of the figure.  The NMM gold of the chapter symbol and skull icon turned out like I wanted them.  I had some doubts about the book as it is so big and devoid of texture but it worked out in the end.  This picture also clearly show his name in the rim of the stone.

Grey Knight Right Side.JPG (89794 bytes)This is the BIG picture I mentioned in Gallery III.  I just couldn't bring myself to reduce the image and I figure one big picture should be OK.  It really shows up everything I was able to accomplish and imparts the directional power of the sculpt.  With the halberd in the direction he is looking and the book on the chain and the loin cloth in the opposite direction it really looks like he is about to confront a big nasty.

Grey Knight Back.JPG (77046 bytes)The back really shows up the thickness of the structural supports of the legs.  The rear of the model is where the most scroll work can be found.  I have always painted all the sides of my models as if they were the 'major' focus.  The back of this figure is a case in point.  This view, along with the front view show up the sharp contrast and fading pattern on the blade.  Many people here have said it is hard to look at, and I take that as a compliment.

Work yet to do: Grey circles at the ends of the belt need pattern, loin cloth needs pattern at bottom, chapter symbol in center of base.  I will do these things before too long but will have to take a break for now.
