Heresy Nether Demon Due to the size of this model some of my pictures are a little off with regards to colour. Even with post processing of colours, backgrounds and brightness I was unable to bring a consistent level of image to the net. As I said this model presented me with many unique opportunities as well as challenges and photography was definitely one of the challenges.
This first picture is pretty large and may take a second to
load if you have dial-up. I left one of the pictures kinda large since it
shows the effect I was able to achieve while still showing the entire
model. It is is especially important with this model to see it as a whole
since everything works togther to build a complete image. This shot of the models front really shows the red to yellow/white highlights, the glow of the blues and the green to green/white counter highlights and deep shadows. One of my biggest concerns was to reduce the red/blue/green Christmas association. I feel that the model was painted in such a way that there is no association while at the same time utilizing a combination of colours most painters stear clear of. The pattern of the reds and greens on the blues is interestingly enough burned into my mind. When I close my eyes it is what I see. It is a very hypnotic pattern IRL and I found myself just staring at it from time to time. The left and right pictures really show up the sense of midnight on the wings. I wanted a super smooth blend on the wings that gave the impression of night enveloping the model. This sense of framing the model is important on such a large model and the wings do just that. They bring the attention of the viewer to the torso where the irradiance of the skin keeps you engaged. For this to work the wings needed to have little embellishment and I relied on the blended blues to add strength to the model. The back of the model was an interesting challenge since the additional physiology I sculpted to support the wings has little in the way of small muscles. This is true of the back in general since the muscle groups there are pretty large. This lack of small muscles meant I had to add points of irradiance to the skin as I imagined the light would play off of it. All in all it turned out well but it was much more challenging than the front, even though the front is more complex. The blade of the halberd was done in a similar style to the demon weapon found on my =I= chaos magus. I chose this style since it is such a brooding scheme for an evil weapon. It is very dark while at the same time having bright highlights which really bring it to life. The shaft was done in a light greenish grey to provide a light point on the model and to make it seem as though the weapon's blade is suspended in space from the model. For those of you that have not seen this massive model up close I took a size comparison shot. I used a Confrontation model which is the size of your standard gaming figure. As you can see from the picture the model is huge. If you are interested in seeing what I sculpted on the model I also have pictures of the Greens.
