GRIFFONS
GARELL
the REDEEMER
The art design folks at Confrontation never cease to amaze with the poses they
come up with. This static single plane figure has way more life than it
should due in large part to the pose. The sculpt on the cloak is stunning
and also helps to convey a sense of motion. I chose to paint him in a
colonial style and I think that suits him much better than the black that he is
portrayed in. More pictures can be found
here.
GRIFFON
HIGH GUARD
This unit of models is simply stunning and a real treat to paint. The
flowing cloth and the sense of menace either real or implied is what makes these
models so cool. I have been wanting to do a paint scheme like Eldrad for
quite some time and thought that these would work nicely for that. With
the swords being the light source I was very happy with the way the light plays
on the model. It was also an interesting point that saw one of the models
without lighting since his sword is sheathed. This allows the viewer to
actually see the non-lighted look which is unusual since lighting is usually an
all or nothing effect.
Pictures
of the back of the models show the rich red of the cloth, pattern work and NMM
gold.
SERED,
TEMPLAR COMMANDER
This is the second time I have painted this model and the difference in final
product is pretty profound. I started this model desiring to have a tight
colour scheme and ended up with one of the most varied models I have ever done.
While the pallet is complex I feel that it all works well together due the
partitioning of the model. I had tonnes of fun with the patterning and the
new blends and highlights. More pictures can be found
here.
IRON
PRIESTESS
This is the second time I have painted this model and the scheme is very
different. This time I decided to do a spectrum iridescent scheme from
purple through blue to green. The multi layered armour plates allow this
to work in a very dramatic way. I also did a three colour scheme on the
blades of the staff as well. While the colours are subtle they provide
just enough contrast to allow the viewer to see the various shades. More
pictures can be found here.
EXORCIST
This model carries on with the dark religious nature of the Griffons. The
armour on the model has to be some of the best yet from Rackham and it holds the
lighting effect very well. I did a lighting effect from the blade in a
greenish grey and then did the secondary effect in a washed out jade tone.
The base sees another rendition of marble stone work. More pictures can be
found here.
GRIFFON
WARBAND
This band was designed around a Sleepy Hallow theme. So, most of the
models have sweeping cloaks with an emphasis on fabric vs armour. In
keeping with the Sleepy Hallow theme the models were kept dark with deep shadows
and more subtle highlights. They are based in many different styles with
the over all theme being that of a graveyard. Many more pictures can
thoughts can be found here.
The
Griffon line in the Confrontation game is probably my favorite. The style
of these models is exactly what I look for in a figure. The Iron Priestess
is no exception, her sense of foreboding power is obvious from her sculpt.
This model is bright, which is more in line with my normal style but the colours
I chose are very different. The rose armour was done in a sky-earth style
with the primary light source being from the right. I also used a light
azure blue for the armour details with the symbol on her head being done in the
sky-earth technique. The purple, while dark, is highlighted to look like
light lively fabric. More pictures can be seen
here.
This
eerie model deserved to be painted under the light of the moon. I can just
imagine him jumping from tomb stone to stone seeking the evil that roams
graveyards. Rather than paint the light in only greys I added yellow to
the mix and really like the effect. This model is quite evil looking for a
good model and that is what I tried to accentuate with the paint work. His
face is only highlighted with grey paint to make it look very dark under the rim
of the hat. Of course I did the glasses he wears so that they leer out of
the darkness of his face. More pics can be found
here.
This
model represents my character, Eldrad. He is a paladin of Helm [Forgotten
Realms god] and has undergone a number of changes since he was last painted by
Darcy Schiller [see Guest Gallery]. This
model was a total experiment in colour and lighting. He turned out very
well and is bright, even for me. His sword glows with the holy light of a
holy avenger and his shield glows with the divine protection of his god.
The model is Confrontation with Glade Rider wings [from GW] and a sculpted cloak
to tie it together. More pics can be found
here.
This
was an interesting conversion proposed by a client. It is the body of the
Templar Commander from Confrontation, Kohril's head from GW and the new sword
from Prince Tyrion. At first I was skeptical since GW heads are much
larger than those on most Confrontation models. This is true of this model
as well but the body is so long in this case that it looks perfect for an elf,
tall and lean. More pics can be found here.
These
two models, like all the Confrontation models have such style. The one on
the building was just begging to be placed in a Batman type setting. His
pose is just so perfect. The one on the floor looks to be trying to sneak
into a well guarded palace or something. Amazing what good sculptors and
artists can capture in a pose. Both models were done with an emphasis on
an overhead lighting scheme. More pics and explanations can be found here.
I
am sure that just about every painter who sees this model wants to paint
it. The military pick over the shoulder is just so classy and the censure
with the angels coming out of it is the icing on the cake. I actually
picked this model up a month or so ago and have been too busy to work on him
'til now. The golds were done with Vallejo and they look so much
better. More pics can be found here.
This
model is just out of control. First off I must say that it is not a very
good build since I don't have a bit small enough to drill into her arms.
This lack of drilling makes for a less sturdy model than I like. The pose
is very unique, implying a smooth easy running motion. The fact that she
is double handing the sword in a kind of prayer grip is unique [I think].
I went with a total theme on this model, moon light. More pics and rambling
can be found here.
I
have had this model for about two years and finally decided to put some paint on
it. Just like the new Emperor's Champion this model has the feeling of confidence
and power. More pics and a painting description can be found here.
I
have a few Confrontation figures that I have acquired over the past year or so
that I will be painting in the near future. Doing this one was so easy,
the paint just flew on the model creating a very effective wizard. He will
be used in our D&D campaign since one of the players is currently using one
of my old WHFB models. Pictures of his right
and left
sides are also available for viewing. NOTE:
Thanks to a watchful guest the right and left links are now correct, Thanks.
