GRIFFON CHARACTERS
HUNTER
of DARKNESS
This model was done in such a way as to maximize the darkness of the model
without compromising contrast. It is easy to make a dark model but much
harder to make a dark model that has depth. I replaced his scabbard in his
off hand with a torch and added a subtle lighting effect to the model. The
torch makes this model seem so much more perfect in his quest against evil.
I used a GW skeleton coming out of the ground to make the Hunter look more
menacing. More pictures can be found
here.
MAGISTRATE
of GRIFFON
This model was painted almost exactly like the Rackham model since I was so
impressed with the paint scheme. I am not a big fan of copying models but
from time to time it is a good learning experience to try and replicate what
another has done. This is because they will use coloures and lighting
differently from you and by copying them you will learn what it is they do.
The colonial nature of the sculpt is really emphasized by the paint scheme.
The model is based on an elevated stone burial mound to emphasize his importance
in the band. More pictures can be found
here.
SAPHON
the PREACHER
This model was great fun to paint. He is so loaded down with gear that I
was able to creatively use almost every colour and yet create a cohesive final
model. I placed him atop a marble tomb that is dedicated to the same
purpose as he is [rune on his standard and rune on the tomb match] for the same
reason I elevated the Magistrate. I added a lantern in his oddly posed
left hand and did subtle object source lighting on his lower leg. Lanterns
are different from most objects when determining where the light will fall since
they are designed to project the light outward parallel to the ground.
This means they have a narrow area they can affect with their light. More
pictures can be found here.
