Gallery V [2003 Archive
Pictures]
I have been painting so many models in 2003 that I have had to remove the
earliest ones from Gallery V so that the page loads faster.
I
have not deviated too far from the image that Confrontation painters have portrayed
their models until now. This model inspired me to do something totally
different and to support the scheme I even have a bit of a tale to tell.
More pics and the story of the model can be found here.
These
two models, like all the Confrontation models have such style. The one on
the building was just begging to be placed in a Batman type setting. His
pose is just so perfect. The one on the floor looks to be trying to sneak
into a well guarded palace or something. Amazing what good sculptors and
artists can capture in a pose. Both models were done with an emphasis on
an overhead lighting scheme. More pics and explanations can be found here.
This
model is so menacing! I just love the hunched over stalking pose. I
went with an American Southwest look to the base, with rounded red stones, sand
and a cactus. I did his armour in what seemed like a 100 layers of red to
achieve the smooth blend. The blades were done in a crystal scheme vs the
standard NMM so I could try something new. I am very happy with the blades
and was able to develop another interesting weapon technique. It has also
been a while since I did muscle striations and so I figured they would be
perfect for this model. More pics can be found here.
The
wolfen Vastal is another of the female wolfen that were released only
recently. While they are quite tall they are much slimmer than the male
wolfen. This aspect of their physiology makes them look more like dancers
than warriors. However, this model has enough muscle tone to make any body
builder jealous. The scenic base is that of a rocky beach with small waves
rippling and breaking through a gap in the rocks. So the front side has
the waves and the back side has the sea foam. More pictures can be found here.
I
am very happy with this model. From the minimal highlighting and shadowing
to the pattern work this figure really came together well. The tree trunk
is my first attempt at a sculpted tree and friends say it looks real. I am
most happy with the NMM copper of the waist symbol. It is my first attempt
at this effect and it came out brilliantly. More pics can be found here.
These
Grey Knights from GW are pretty damn cool. The new terminator sculpts are
great with massive improvements over the old ones. I understand that the
sculptor when a little insane sculpting all the little characters...I can
sympathize. I was pretty tired of painting the letters after the 4 layer,
they are very small and amazingly enough spell appropriate words. The pics
for each model can be found here.
I
am sure that just about every painter who sees this model wants to paint
it. The military pick over the shoulder is just so classy and the censure
with the angels coming out of it is the icing on the cake. I actually
picked this model up a month or so ago and have been too busy to work on him
'til now. The golds were done with Vallejo and they look so much
better. More pics can be found here.
This
model is just out of control. First off I must say that it is not a very
good build since I don't have a bit small enough to drill into her arms.
This lack of drilling makes for a less sturdy model than I like. The pose
is very unique, implying a smooth easy running motion. The fact that she
is double handing the sword in a kind of prayer grip is unique [I think].
I went with a total theme on this model, moon light. More pics and rambling
can be found here.
When
a friend showed me this model I was very excited to paint it. The pose is
very regal and the shape of her body is very well done. I went with simple
clean lines and I ended up with a striking model. The gold NMM was done entirely
differently than normal, using Vallejo paints, and I am much happier with the
look. It is amazing that the Ochre Brown [856] has been sitting on my
table for over a year and I have never even opened it. I tired to do the
light blue shawl as translucent in the back and while it looks good it was
likely not the best model to try it with. This is because the shawl is
just too thick [model wise]. More Pics can be found here.
The
Nether Demon is one of the largest model I have ever painted. It is in the
same category as the Forge World Abaddon and Stone Troll for sheer size.
This presented my with some unique painting opportunities and challenges.
I painted him in a scheme that tries to achieve internal radiance or surface
irradiance. I had 4 pair of various spectrum Oakley sunglasses to work
from and this help a lot. The M Frames I used for bike racing were the
most help since they were broad spectrum iridium and had the full range from
green to red. Pics of this monster model can be found here.
This
model was done in a very dark scheme with some real light focal points. I
did the armour in a dull reflective style that doesn't really show up very well
in the pics. Perhaps I shall have to increase the highlighting so that it
is more visible in the future. This model was done as a gift for a friend
in Vancouver who has been asking nicely for a figure for some time. He is
always cheerful and positive when I see him and a great person to show new
models to. He is usually one of the first to see my GD figures since I
depart for the US from Vancouver. Well, I finally decided to do a model
for his army. More pice can be found here.
I
have had this model in my bitz bins since he came out. I actually used his
axe arm in my Golden Demon Duel in 2001. I decided that, in true ork
fashion, he would be big, bright and bold! When my wife saw the finished
product she was like, 'Wow that is great, but it is so much brighter than your
normal figures.' This model is very bright and literally jumps off the
base at you. It sees me using more green and reapplying the line texture
technique that I have not used in some time. More pics can be found here.
I
have had this model for about two years and finally decided to put some paint on
it. Just like the new Emperor's Champion this model has the feeling of confidence
and power. More pics and a painting description can be found here.
I
picked this model up in a small hobby store in Glen Burnie when I was there for
USGD 2002. It seems that every store I stopped in had Confrontation
models, while this is great for those of you in the US it is not the case for
Canadians. For some reason, I have yet to find, these models are not sold
by a retailer in Canada [at least of any size]. Enough of my ranting. :)
This is the Mutant Goblin model and when I saw it I knew I had to paint
it. It is totally out of control and I really like painting mean looking
monsters. This model sees me really expanding the painting pallet I use,
and I really like the effect. More pictures can be found here.
My
local RTT store brought in some Reaper models to see how they will sell and I
must say that I am very impressed! This model while a bit 2D for my taste
has all the style I require in a model. For more pics and a description of
the painting go here.
So,
the New Emperor's Champion is IMHO a large improvement on the old one. To
me it looks like he is stepping over a hill, a booming challenge ripping across
a battle field, as he challenges the enemies champion. Great dynamic pose,
while maintaining the style of the old model. I did a small sculpt for a
Roman/Greek horse hair plume on the top of his head and added a banner.
The pictures took pretty dark, but his loin cloth is a deep red which sets off
the gold very well. More pics can be found here.
This
band is composed of Dark Elf figures I have wanted to paint or figures I have
already painted [done again because I like them so much]. My main goal was
to create a dark yet colourful band so that it was obvious that they were Dark
Elves. I have a lot of pictures of this group since I realy like the way
they turned out. Pictures of the entire band can be found here.
This
model is a possessed for Mordheim that I did for the Hand of Fate Warband in Gallery
IV. The client just said hooved feet and a claw and then whatever I
wanted to do. So I was able to create a hulking creature using a number of
bitz and a lot of putty. The painted and green pictures can be found here.
I
have a few Confrontation figures that I have acquired over the past year or so
that I will be painting in the near future. Doing this one was so easy,
the paint just flew on the model creating a very effective wizard. He will
be used in our D&D campaign since one of the players is currently using one
of my old WHFB models. Pictures of his right
and left
sides are also available for viewing. NOTE:
Thanks to a watchful guest the right and left links are now correct, Thanks.
The
new Silver Helm models are very well done. Since they were released I have
wanted to do one and I finally had the time in January. I tilted down the
lance arm so that it looks like he could be attacking infantry and positioned
the horse in a slight rearing pose. I also added the seat back from the
old High Elf dragon since it carries the dragon motif so well. I painted
him in a classic High Elf scheme while trying to incorporate NMM gold on the
scale barding and reflective metal on the plate armour. There are also
pictures from the right
and front.
Well
here he is and what an amazing figure. In fact I would encourage anyone
who has ever wanted to paint a 54mm figure to get this guy. So much
character and depth in the sculpt that it seemed like it was resin. With
the new Matrix movies coming out this year he reminds me of Neo, long flowing
trench coat and pose are perfect. More pictures can be found here.
The
=I= Chaos magus is a model I have been wanting to get my hands on for over a
year. I first saw work in progress sculpts of him in early 2002 and was
very impressed with the detail and work they were putting into him. Well,
I had actually kinda forgotten about him when I happened upon the model and was,
like, 'It's out...?, Cool, gotta paint it.' The lines of the armour are
very big and menacing his face [esp. the pose of the face] is full of lofty
power. The sword is fantastic and is quite literally a character of its
own. More pictures and a brief description of the new things I tried can
be found here.
