CHAOS
WARRIOR REGIMENT
This large unit of warriors has been in the works for about 6 months now.
From the early planning stages I knew that the final look would be impressive.
The rose armour combined with the deep green axes and the ebony skin come
together to create a dark, yet vibrant unit. More pictures can be found
here.
GORBAD
IRONCLAW
Man is this model kick ass. When I opened the box and saw how large the
pieces were I was seriously impressed. It is nice to see a truly massive
Ork model. The level of detail is impressive and while there are a lot of
little touches it is not 'over the top'. I went with a very rich red that
is highlighted to almost white. I used six different NMM tones for this
model to create a very dynamic look. More pictures can be found
here.
TANK
This model was done for a friend to use in a Shadowrun RPG game. He is the
'bullet magnet' of the group since everyone else plays from the shadows more.
He is part of the same team that Killswitch is in and they make a very brutal
combination. I am very impressed by the Infinity range and see myself
painting more since they are so well done. More pictures can be found
here.
INQUISITOR
STERN
I remember painting this model as a pre release and also as a heavily converted
entry for GD 2003. I am not sure but I suspect that this is one of the
most painted figures in my Galleries. I really do love the detail of the
model and his armour is excellently done. I wanted him to have a hammer in
his right hand and since the actual model has such a stiff pose I had to remove
the entire arm. I replaced it with an arm from a Grey Knight terminator so
I could have more flexibility in the pose. While I wanted a hammer I
didn't feel that a standard thunder hammer would look very cool. I used the
staff end from another GW model to create a very ornate hammer/mace for him.
I then added a Forgeworld =I= plague for a standard and the chalice from Corbulo
as a standard top. More pictures can be found
here.
KILLSWITCH
This model was painted to be used by a friend in a Shadowrun RPG game. Of
all the sniper models on the internet this new figure from GW has the most style
and fits his character the best. I went with SWAT blue, grey and black for
his gear. The red cloak, while not very stealthy, helps to frame the
figure of the model very well. More pictures can be found
here.
TYRION
It has been a very long time since I have painted this model and the style and
detail is still timeless. This has got to be one of the most 'classic'
sculpts in the GW model range. I used NMM as I feel it really does
brighten a model much more than metallic paints can do. There are many
components of the actual stock paint work on this model but the use of NMM and
the alterations from gold to silver in parts really change the model. I
used the standard base but built the rocks up so Tyrion has a more commanding
view of the battle field. Of course the Dark Elf on the base was done in a
completely different paint scheme and this really adds to the over all effect of
the figure. More pictures can be found here.
CHAOS
GIANT
Somehow this model escaped my attention until recently when I feverishly
attacked the kit in the resulting conversion. This has got to be one of my
favorite models in recent memory. I wanted to create a chaos giant that
was deformed but was not completely 'Nurgle-like'. This would allow the
model to be used in any chaos army. To this end I painted an undivided
chaos emblem on the side of his rotund belly. His skin was a real journey
to paint, requiring greater than 20 layers, glazes with various dilute inks and
counter shadows. His massive blade is an altered sawmill blade from a
pillaged Empire mill. More pictures can be found
here.
LORD
CESIUS the PLAGUEBRINGER
This massive model is similar to Rekiss but at the same time they are very
different. I used both of the models to allow me to come up with an over
all composition for a GD Nurgle Demon Prince. There are elements of both
that I really like, both paint work and conversion, and I will be combining them
for a third and final model. Each section of this model is made up of up
to 12 layers of various tones and washes. Each section blends into the
next seamlessly in a very organic way. I made the blade of his massive
plague weapon a deep rich green that draws the eye. It is the only non
pastel element and as such is a natural focal point. More pictures can be
seen here.
NEMETIS
the SACRILAGE
I have painted most of the Devourer characters over the past 3-4 years and every
time I am very satisfied with the final look. The entire range captures a
violently savage way of combat and each model has it's own sense of style.
The pose of this model is deceptively calm as he watches from his high perch.
Due to the savage poses of most of the other devourers there is an implied sense
of motion in this model. This clever use of implied motion is further
carried off by his bunching muscles. I used a dark scheme for the model
that really allows the pole arm to become the focal point of the figure.

WANDYR
I first saw this model about a month ago as I browsed the Confrontation store of
the Rackham web site. It is the first Drune model I have painted and I
really like the savage look of the models. The dark paint scheme is
perfect for the evil nature of the faction. I painted his skin in a dark
purple grey black that really allowed me accentuate the musculature of the
figure. I used a natural green grey for the armour plates since I imagine
they are either a rough bronze or pressed leather. His axe is an eerie
green so that the blade appears to glow with evil energies. I did extend
the haft of the axe since the head was very fragile and broke during cleaning.
The extension allowed me to exaggerate the size of the weapon, creating an
impressive final look. More pictures can be found
here.
MOUNTED
BARD of ALAHAN
This mounted figure has got to be one of the best examples of horse sculpting I
have ever worked on, The rearing step pose of the massive creature really
captures the life of the model. To further enhance the size of the horse
is the diminutive female bard sitting his saddle. I went with a very rich
rose for the armour and applied various tones of this colour throughout the
figure. The filigree of the armour was done in a bright blue NMM so that
it appears to be reflecting the sky. Due to the softness of the paint work
I decided that a snow base would work best to set the scene for the model.

KYRUS
the SOMBER
This model has such simple yet elegant lines that it was a real treasure to
paint. The casual yet threatening nature of his pose is really brought
forth by the use of black and white paint work. The only real colour in
the model is the rich red of his cloak, implying immediate and impending
violence. I painted the trim of his armour in a bright blue NMM to further
define the pose and give him a regal tone. His armour is black that was
built up with purple before it was highlighted in soft grey. I chose the
four panel black and white tabard due to the richness of the folds in the cloth.

INQUISITOR
UTHOR, The JUDGE
This model from Andrea is a '07 release and is a fantastic example of what the
company is capable of. Andrea is one of the best known historical model
companies in the world and this fantasy model really caught my eye. I
instantly thought to use the model as an Inquisitor but since different
companies sculpt 54mm to slightly different scales I was not sure if it would
work. When I received the model I was very happy to see that it is very
close if not exactly the same as GWs 54mm models. I used one of the
Bulldog keychains as the Icon of Judgment and the forearm from the chaos magus.
Due to the pose of the model I felt that the sword would make a great source of
lighting. So his force weapon has a bright moody glow projecting onto the
model. More pictures can be found here.
APOSTATE
of DARKNESS II
This model has been painted in a very different scheme than the first one I did.
It is cool to show how two similar models can yield such different looks based
on the scheme chosen. I love the way the gold of the filigree really
brightens up the moody red of the armour. The cloth was painted with a
dull green blended into blue blended up into purple. I used Dark Angle
Green as a base for the swords since it yields such a deep rich green.
This is the only GW paint I still use other than white and black. More
pictures can be found here.
SPIKED
CHAIN CONVERSION
This model is a conversion done to represent an incredibly strong human with
large gauntlets, a magical ank and a massive spiked chain. To achieve this
final product I used bits from a couple of GW models. I also based the
model on a ruined green marble statue. I felt that the dark contrast of
the base balanced the overall lightness of the figure. More pictures can
be found here.
APOSTATE
of DARKNESS
This model was got to be one of the most 'evil' models in the Rackham range.
Not only is the figure obviously depraved but there are two helpless, naked
bodies chained to him. The models armour is very ornate and I painted it
in 4 tones of NMM. I used the normal metallic NMM on the blades of his
armour, a yellowed NMM on most of his armour plates and a pink tone NMM as
contrast. The final NMM was done on his massive hammers. This is a
great example of what can be achieved by altering a blend at certain points to
yield a very different final look. More pictures can be found
here.
NAFARIUS
CLONE
This massive model is one I have wanted to paint since it was released. I
have only found the time now to paint the model and I am very happy with the
results. The model is very large and menacing and required many colour
transitions to bring the organo-metallic scheme to life. This model runs
the entire range from dark and brooding to bright and crisp. I found that
with so many bits of detail this was the best way to capture the brutality of
the model. I posed him on a rocky slag heap situated in the middle of a
small pool. More pictures can be found here.
ECLIPSANTE
I
I have had this model in my model box for some time. It is as impressive
as the first one I did, full of grace and implied motion. I wanted the
model to be dark and brooding with bright bladed weapons. To further
emphasize the pose I placed the model atop a slender wooden stump. She is
very balanced and is not tipsy in the slightest. More pictures can be
found here.
ELVEN
ARCHER MAIDEN
This model is one I have had in my 'to be painted' area for some time now.
The elegance of her pose and the artistic simplicity of her garb caught my eye
immediately. I would say that she is one of the most stylish models I have
yet to paint. I painted her in a fall scheme that seems to work so well
for elves. I added a very small [exactly sized and shaped] piece of ground
cover as a hair ornament. More pictures can be found
here.
REKISS
the RIPE
This massive model has been extensively altered from the original. It does
however retain the look and feel of the original, if a bit meaner. I did
him in 20 plus colours and likely 40 plus tones. He is a very Nurgle
looking model, dirty yet sharp. Needless to say I had a lot of fun
painting him since I really do find the Nurgle pallet to be one of my favorite.
More pictures can be found here.
ELDAR
FARSEER
This is one of the new models in the Eldar line and it is a super depiction of a
Farseer. The pose and dynamic feel to the cloth made this model a real
treat to paint. He is also a deviation from the dark/evil schemes I have
been painting recently. More pictures can be found
here.
LUCIUS
the ETERNAL
This is another great addition to the 40k range. It shows a movement
towards dynamic and detailed figures which is very appealing to me. When I
was painting this model I was unsure how to proceed once I had the pink base on
the armour and the fleshy tones on the faces. In the end I went with a
varied pallet that really brings this Slaanesh lord to life. More pictures
can be found here.
SHARUT
the WARLORD
This massive model is by far the largest and most impressive Wolfen that Rackham
has produced. His massive frame and ornate armour compelled me to buy him
and paint him while he is still a new release. I kept his scheme dark and
brooding, which I find works so well for this model. I based him on a
rocky ledge with cooling lava beneath so that he appears to be surveying the
field. More pictures can be found here.
