DUKE EDWARD
LEONCOEUR
The model used for
Edward is the limited edition Bretonnian genreral that came out with the last
army box. He is, to my recollection, the only Bretonnian with a Roman
style helmet crest. It gives him a very regal and unique appearance.
I added some green stuff pennants and token to the model that make him look more
like a real lord. At the butt end of his lance is his ladies favour
showing a flower brocade. On his shield are two tokens, once from his
daughter and one from his aunt, the queen. On his standard pole is the
yellow pennant marking him as the kings personal champion.
His crest is the red and blue of the royal house with three lions on the blue
field and a fleur de Lis on the red. All icons are ore, or gold, also in
the style of the ruling house. As a member of the house he also has the
dagged strip of white at the top. This marks him as a member in line for
the throne.
The horse is a new colour for me. I have been studying the white horse in
our pasture for some time and decided to try my hand at a more realistic looking
white horse. This process saw me mixing some colours I have never combined
to date, and to good effect.
Pattern work can be seen on the caparison, standard, caparison strapping, lance,
girth strap, pennants and ribbons.
Originally I did this model as a Paladin Battle Standard Bearer on a Royal
Pegasus but in the painting I embellished and the end product is Edward, the
kings cousin.
