Devilfish APC

This is undoubtedly the best vehicle kit GW has ever made [and I have built at least one of ALL of them].  It is even better than the Land Raider in it's ability to go together seamlessly.  The interior is cool if rather awkward to get at to paint.  I have painted 3 Land Raiders and I did the interior detail on all of them while the vehicle was unassembled.  For the Devilfish I decided to partly build the model and then paint the interior.  While this is good for a table top piece I would not suggest it for a display model.

Devilfish Interior.JPG (71571 bytes) In this picture of the Devilfish you can see at what stage I decided to prime the model and paint the interior.  Much of my 'need' to assemble at least part of the model was I had no idea how it was going to go together.  I have had some kits that are so bad that they require tonnes of work once assembled, and this wouldn't do if I had already painted the interior.  I can say that from now on I will be confident painting this model unassembled.

So, this is the first model for my Tau army that will display the colours I have chosen to do the main force in.  The model is primed black and then based [4-5 coats] with Hawk Turquoise.  I then have 2 pre-made blends with more white and Bleached bone to give me my 2 main highlights.  The final highlight on both the turquoise and the black is a Vallejo Model Colour called Deck Tan.  I know it is wierd but when thinned properly [50/50 water and Future Acrylic Floor Polish] it is just an amazing highlight colour.  And by doing both the blacks/dark greys and the turquoise with the same highlight I am able to 'pull' the colours together.  The other main colour is a blend of 50/50 Shadow Grey and Chaos Black.  This gives a real dark grey that is obviously not black.  This is then highlighted with Shadow and then the Deck Tan.  The yellow on the front is Sunburst Yellow highlighted with 4-5 blends with white.

One final thing before I 'roll' the pictures.  I realize the model is tilted on the base and slanted to the front.  I did this on purpose to make it a bit more dynamic when it is on the stand.
